6 Cheltenham Eye-Catchers

This year's Cheltenham Festival was by far one of the best in recent years, not just because of the top class action (Lossiemouth beats the males in the Champion Hurdle) and drama (Envoi Allen death/Jockey fallouts) but because the good old 'feel-good-factor' seemed to return in abundance, and with the attendance numbers up plenty on the preceding years it brought a whole new sense of wellness and back to 'the good old days' feel amongst the crowd with a buzz that hasn't been seen since well before covid.

I've picked out a few eye-catchers below which should hopefully bring you some profit and are worth following for at least their next three runs.

Sober Glory - Proved himself as the real deal in the Supreme Novice and not just a horse that can make all against moderate fields which, although might have been the case after making the running and winning at Newbury twice, the times actually backed up those wins to suggest he could do it at the highest level. He saw plenty of money during the first day so the shrewdies knew and the each-way money was rewarded with a valiant second behind Old Park Star. The race in general can easily be picked apart as several of the fancied runners failed to shine, but I think Sober Glory is a genuinely smart animal, and with connections saying that he'll be seen over fences next year where he'll potentially be better, he's certainly a horse for your tracker.

Kopek Des Bordes - Another horse that had to prove himself, this time over fences at the highest level at novice level, this time over fences as he's certainly proven over hurdles (won the Supreme for us last year).

He had to settle for second place behind Kargese, but had he jumped the last better instead of losing loads of momentum after jumping awkwardly, then although it's received mixed opinion, I think he'd have won. The future's bright for this horse over fences this year and although you won't get much of a price wherever he goes next, he's an exciting prospect and we may see him bumping into Sober Glory over fences at some stage which will certainly prove to be an engaging encounter of the highest order.

The Mighty Celt - Ran a cracker for Dan Skelton on only his second start for the yard where, despite racing keenly for much of the early part of the race, he still managed to stay on into a never-nearer 6th in the Fred Winter Hcp. He'll need to settle better going forward, but he's another smart prospect for a yard that's thriving right now.

Madara - One of our winners and he couldn't have been more impressive, winning easily by 7.5L in one of the best times of the whole meeting. He's gone up 10lb for that win which looks a bit lenient to me and he's entered in the Aintree Topham Chase next where he's currently 8/1, and with the Aintree fences being cut smaller again this year, he'll certainly be on many people's short-list.

Mets Ta Ceinture - Another Skelton horse this time catching the eye in the prestigious Champion Bumper on what was her very first start for the yard after being recruited from France. She tanked through the race and would clearly be helped by a better pace which had that been the case on the day, she might have won. But she's another big prospect over hurdles for the yard and a filly to be followed.

Kabral Du Mathan - Another of our selections and one that caught the eye in a big way simply by the way he moved, powering along on his first try over 3 miles and looking an easy winner coming to the last. But he never got home and weakened tamely inside the final furlong after getting matched at very short-prices in-running, and although it was disappointing and suggested that he had no fight for a finish, I don't think that was the case I think he simply never stayed and perhaps wasn't expecting to run over 3 miles for the first time in his career. But he's definitely a horse to follow as he just looks to have the potential to be top class, if not at 3 miles then definitely over a slightly shorter trip.

That's 6 horses that I've got in my tracker and you would be wise to do the same!

We've got the big Aintree Festival next month and with plenty of the Cheltenham runners off to 'scouseland' in April, reading the Cheltenham form can be vital in finding some good value Aintree winners.
